We had a great meeting last Thursday. It started with dinner (of course), then moved into sharing Tips for Telling to Children.
We also reviewed the previous week's telling at GSH Health Ministries Volunteer dinner. The staging (done on the fly) worked well, and the stories were great...including Gye's graceful three story "fall" off the edge of the stage.
We had a lot of other things to talk about, too. Here's the highlights:
- Hoosier Storytelling Festival - Abbreviated telling of Esther - Oct 13 We need to confirm that Nadine will tell Chapter 3 again. We'd like to have the Esther DVD available to sell there, but we'll need to check on that. Remember: you need to shorten your part of Esther to about 4 minutes so we can meet our timing limits. We'll plan the final details at our September meeting.
- GDCC Prayer Day - May 1, 2008 Darryl Fairchild of GDCC (Greater Dayton Christian Connections) has invited us to do the program for their National Day of Prayer. Their tentative theme is "sojourners." We need more information before we commit to this.
- Guild Promotion We should list our 'programs' on the website and see if we can get some additional bookings. Dr Luke's healing stories, for example, would be suitable for other groups in health care. We've also got Esther, Love Stories, Ghost Stories, etc. We'll need program summary, run time, suggested audience, testimonials, etc, for each program. (Any volunteers to write these up?) We could also post programs by individual Guild members.
- 2008 Theme: Stories of Peace & Reconciliation Unintentionally, The Story of Esther turned out to be our theme for 2007. That worked so well, we're thinking of "Stories of Peace & Reconciliation" for 2008. Would be a good project for this Election year, and we could try to book the same program several times. Maybe for the GDCC Day of Prayer, too. So start collecting Bible, faith and other stories on this topic. We'll talk more about this at the October meeting.
- Guild Finances Since we've got 2 paid tellings this year, we have a chance to cover some of our expenses ($110/year for website and the Hoosier Storytelling road trip) and even start a Guild treasury. For now, we'll keep the treasury in cash, and Joyce will hold it (until someone else volunteers). As far as future income: bookings of programs through the website might bring in some $$. I also suggested a voluntary contribution of $1/person at each meeting. Maybe a voluntary contribution from any honorariums paid to Guild members who get a paid booking through the CinDay website?
Next meeting is September 27.
