CinDay Guild met at UTS on Thursday, Oct 25, 2007.
Welcome to Larry Thokey who joined us for the first time. He is a friend of Tom and Amelia Boomershine's. Since Larry is an experienced speaker, but a new storyteller, we spent some time talking about how to LEARN stories and internalize them:
- Breaking the story into episodes and looking for familiar key phrases (that even non-biblical people will recognize)
- Walking the 'talk': moving as you work on learning the story
- Writing the story (manuscript or typing) at least 3 times
- Visualizing the physical setting, and telling the story "within" it.
- Telling the story to a sympathetic/critical listener who will give you feedback and reaction
- Telling it over and over and over and over and over and over...
Working on upcoming programs:
Retired Clergy luncheons 12/5 & 12/12
- Tellers will be Mary Kercherval-Short and Joyce Orr in Cinti; Jan Loomis, Cortney Haley and Joyce Orr in Dayton.
- Anyone else interested? Please contact Joyce.
- Stories, staging and other details will be worked out with the tellers involved
NOBS April workshop in Indianapolis
- April 5, 2008, 10am-3:30pm
- Tom and Amelia Boomershine, with help from CinDay Guild, will do a presentation and workshop on "Storytelling and Movement". If you want to participate in the presentation or workshop, let Amelia know by Dec 1, 2007.
- Presentation and workshop outlines and stories to be told will be available by our January meeting, Jan 24, 2008.
2008 Theme story: Stories of Peace and Reconciliation
- We decided to use 3-4 core Biblical stories as the center of this program, and surround it with other stories in the theme.
- All tellers will learn ALL the core stories, plus 2-3 other stories of their choice related to the theme. This way, whenever the program is presented, we'll have coverage for the core stories and the surrounding stories will vary depending on which tellers are working that particular event.
Joyce Orr is now posting CinDay events and meetings to a Google Calendar. If you have a GMAIL or a Google account associated with your email account, let Joyce know and she will give you access to the Guild Calendar.
Next meeting: January 24, 2008
