We had a great meeting in January, with 9 people attending.
Including a first-timer, Ron Jackson. Welcome Ron!
(That's 2 new people in the last 2 meetings, if you're keeping count.)
Here's the high points, decisions and announcements from the meeting:
Storytelling & Movement workshop at Christian Theological Seminary, April 5:
Amelia is still working on the outline of the "Boomershine" presentation and workshop. In addition to Amelia and Tom, Amelia has 4 people (Jan Loomis, Larry Thokey, Janet Steele, Joyce Orr) who have indicated they want to be involved in the presentation or workshop.
If you thought you were on Amelia's list, or want to get involved, contact her directly at amelia@gotell.org.
If you want more information about this workshop, http://www.nobs.org/indytent.html
I'll contact the NOBS office for copies of the brochure, and bring them to the next CinDay meeting, if you want to hand them out.
2008 Theme: Stories of Peace & Reconciliation
Had a great discussion and finally picked our Core stories:
- David & Abigail (1 Samuel 25:2-35)
- Feeding your enemies (2 Kings 6:8-23)
- Betrayal and Breakfast (John 18:12-18, 25-27, 21:1-19)
-The Good Samaritan Eyewitnesses (based on Luke 10:25-37)
For the Good Samaritan, members are writing 4 'eyewitness' accounts of the 'incident'.
- the Victim - Gye Miller
- the Samaritan - Nadine Abernathy
- the Levite - Cortney Haley
- the Innkeeper - Ron Jackson
These narratives should be emailed to me (joyceorr4@gmail.com) by Feb 20, so I can include them with the February meeting reminder.
All Guild members will learn the Core stories, including the Good Sam Eyewitnesses. Please use the NRSV translation.
In addition, you can learn 1-2 Biblical or other stories that illustrate peace making and reconciliation; each scheduled telling of our 2008 Theme will include the Core stories and a mix of additional stories.
Also, if you want, you can write additional viewpoint narratives for the Good Sam story.
Email me the title and telling length of your other stories, so we'll have that info when we put tellings together. You don't have to commit to doing every telling of this Theme.
We'll analyze the texts of the 4 Core stories at the February meeting.
I'll be working on a program description and finishing a flyer for this program so we can distribute it and start looking for additional bookings. Right now we have one telling scheduled, for Greater Dayton Christian Connections' National Day of Prayer observance, Thursday May 1. There are one or 2 other tellings possibly in the works.
And, we're collecting quotes about war & peace, so if you have any good ones, email them to me. We may use these as fillers or 'fortune cookies' between the stories.
NOBS Festival Gathering, Aug 6-9, Atlanta
Deadline for early registration discount is May 15.
Entry for a part in the Ecclesiastes Epic Telling is Feb 14, 10am by email to nobsint@nobs.org or phone at 800-355-6627; if you didn't receive the latest issue of The Biblical Storyteller and need to know the telling breakdown, email me.
Tom, Amelia, Cortney and Gye are doing workshops at the Gathering. Others from our Guild are definitely or possibly going. Let's talk about this more before the May deadline so we can set up roommates and carpools.
Esther DVD
Cortney has finished editing the Esther Epic, and gave me a copy for review. We'll let you know as soon as it's available. And we'll need to decide how we're going to distribute it, and if we're going to sell it.
As you see...it was a great meeting.
Next meeting will be Feb 28
